We've provided used and out-of-print books to western Ohio readers and collectors since 1980 through our retail store. This is an excellent mystery and readers who enjoy this novel will look forward to the second book in the series, Grave Surprise. In this instalment, Harper is threatened, shot at, made love to and attacked. ![]() The dialogue is snappy and the plot has plenty of twists that, whilst entirely credible, will keep the reader guessing to the end. In this foray into the paranormal, Harris has created a likeable if damaged heroine, an appealing sidekick and a cast of typical small-town characters. Soon enough, Tolliver is in jail on a trumped-up charge and Harper fears for her own safety. But it seems that someone in this small, somewhat incestuous community is unhappy about what Harper has revealed. With her step-brother and support system, Tolliver Lang, she comes to Sarne, a small town in the Ozarks, to find a missing local teenager, which she does with efficiency and respect. Life hasn’t been particularly kind to Harper, so she charges to use this talent, needing to make a living somehow, even if most people find this distasteful. After being struck by lightning at fifteen, Harper Connolly is endowed with a special talent: she can find dead people and tell how they died. ![]() ![]() Grave Sight is the first book in the Harper Connelly series by American author, Charlaine Harris. ![]()

Laura has several main points of focus and/or concern, all of which play important roles in defining the story of her last four years of life and therefore are the primary elements of her diary entries. ![]() As the narrative unfolds, Laura does exactly that, writing into her diary a succession of secrets, stories, revelations and musings that, as she says several times, she can't share with anyone else. The diary opens with an entry written on Laura's twelfth birthday, the occasion of her being given the diary. There were a lot of different directions that Henning could have taken Evie's story, and this avenue just felt bland to me. This concept seemed incredibly ill-timed in today's society, when trying to manipulate people into relationships just is not acceptable or understandable. She spends the majority of the book gazing at Annemette and dreaming of Anna being back, while blatantly trying to force her best friend into falling in love with her. However.wow, is Evie a bit of a boring mess. Henning does a good job of showing Evie as a young girl who simply misses her friend Anna and wants her best friend (the Crown Prince) to find love. Set in Denmark, Henning brings Evie's story to life. From plays like Wicked to stories like the Sea Witch, it's often the villains of classic stories that authors will choose to write about - and I love it! The Sea Witch tells the origins of the evil sea witch from the Little Mermaid fairy tale. There's a lot of opportunity for an author to reintroduce a character in history, often a character's origin story. ![]() I love retellings of classic stories (especially in fairy tales) because there's often so much more to the story then was originally written. ![]() |
